Welcome to my review of Remotasks.
You’re probably here because you’re wondering if this is a good way to make money, or just another scam to avoid. Which is smart, it always pays to do your research before joining something.
So, is it legit? Yes, Remotasks is legit. It’s a micro-job site that pays “taskers” between $1 to $2 per hour to complete a variety of tasks. For example, transcribing audio files, moderating content, annotating images, and categorizing t-shirts.
Does that mean it’s worth your time and effort?
Not necessarily. Which is why in this review, I’ll walk you through what how it works and share what I like and dislike, to help you decide if it’s right for you.
What Is Remotasks About?
Remotasks is a micro job site that pays its users to complete a variety of tasks online. It’s similar to sites like Amazon Turk, UpWork, GigBucks and other sites that pay you to complete tasks by the hour or per task.
The main difference with Remotasks is, the tasks are often “small” in that they don’t take very long to complete. And as you’d expect, they don’t pay much either. So it’s not like you’ll be taking on big projects, it’s more like lots of small gigs.
What sort of tasks can you complete?
It depends on what interests you really. There’s lots of individual tasks you can complete, within multiple categories. Here’s some category examples:
- Image Annotation
- OCR / Image Transcription
- Audio Transcription
- Comparison
- Data Collection
- Categorization
In order to access each category, you need to take an exam to make sure you are going to be a good fit for the category. The cool thing is, it’s pretty easy to qualify and you can enter as many categories as you like!
The tasks themselves are very easy to do too. So it’s not like you need to have any prior experience. You are completing simple tasks that a machine cannot do (yet).
For example, drawing boundary boxes around objects within images, to help determine what is where within the image. Or categorizing t-shirts in terms of color, design, and patterns.
It’s pretty simple stuff for the most part.
But there are more advanced categories like audio transcription for instance, which requires reasonable typing and english skills. This is why english fluency is a requirement.
Who’s Behind It?
Remotasks (short for “remote tasks”) was founded in 2017 and is owned by a company called Scale AI, Inc. (located at scale.com).
Scale is a San Francisco based company that specialises in artificial intelligence (AI) applications for drones, self driving cars and robotics. And they work with some of the biggest companies on the planet. Such as AirBNB, Uber, Samsung to name a few.
I think it’s good to know that Remotasks is backed by such a trusted, respected, and well and truly legitimate company like Scale. This goes a long way and is more than many paid-to-do sites can boast.
How Does It Work?
The basic idea is to signup for free, complete some basic training to unlock tasks within each category, and start doing tasks to get paid. And once you’ve completed some tasks, you get paid within 7 days via PayPal.
Here’s how the process works in a nutshell:
- Create your free account
- Unlock task categories by taking exams in the “Training Center”
- Select and complete tasks
- Get paid weekly
1. Create Your Free Account
Signing up is free and easy to do. To get started, you just need to go to remotasks.com/signup and sign up through your Facebook account:
You also need to provide your cell phone number, because they send you an SMS code that you need to put in to verify your account. Once that’s done, you’ll see the welcome screen and you’ll be able to move onto the next step.
2. Access the Training Center
The Training Center is going to be the first place you visit after creating your account.
This is where you will be accessing training on specific task categories. Your aim is to complete the training within whatever category you want to work in, and once you do, those tasks will be unlocked.
The good news is, it’s pretty easy to complete the training and they give you three attempts at it. The only reason they’re doing this is to make sure the people they’re going to be paying are up for the task.
As long as you follow the instructions, you should be fine.
3. Select and Complete Tasks
At this point you will now have access to tasks you can complete for money. Exactly which tasks you get, depends on which categories you unlocked within the previous step.
For example, if you completed the image annotation training, you’d get access to image annotation tasks. Or if you want to earn more money, you could do the LIDAR annotation training, and unlock more advanced tasks with increased payout potential.
In any case, there’s half a dozen categories in total. So if you completed all the training, you will have access to all of the tasks.
4. Get Paid Via PayPal
Remotasks pays on a weekly basis via PayPal per task you complete, once the submitted work is accepted. So whatever tasks you have completed within a given week you will be paid for.
However, those tasks must be “accepted” by Remotasks.
Which means they have a quality control team that will make sure the tasks you’ve completed are in accordance with their quality standards.
As long as you’re doing the task correctly and as agreed, you shouldn’t have a problem though. This is why they have exams in place, to make sure you know what you’re doing.
How Much Money Can You Make With Remotasks?
How much you can earn with Remotasks depends on which tasks you complete, and how many tasks you complete in a given week.
But as a guide, you can earn between $1 to $2 per hour on average, or $10 to $15 per day if you’re completing tasks on a regular basis.
Which to be honest isn’t very much.
But in the world of get-paid-to sites, this isn’t too bad all things considered. Most survey sites and other micro job sites are around the same. Some might claim you can make more money, but at the end of the day they rarely ever are high paying.
Why?
It comes down to supply and demand.
If you are performing tasks that literally anyone can do, that require very little skill, your competition (supply) increases. Which means the amount of money you’ll make will be reduced.
This is why some tasks within the Remotasks members area (like LIDAR annotation) pay more. Because it requires more skill and time to complete.
Also worth noting is that they pay more based on how accurate you are when completing a given task. The closer you are to 100% accuracy, the more money you will earn. So it pays to take your job seriously and give your best effort.
Can You Cheat Remotasks?
No, you cannot cheat Remotasks.
I mean, you can certainly try, but these guys are among the most advanced in the world when it comes to their automated systems. Remember, Remotasks is owned by Scale AI, Inc. which is a big player in the artificial intelligence industry.
Trying to cheat these guys is only going to end badly and may even see you missing out on money you’ve already made. Which would be a huge shame.
If you want to maximize how much money you make, complete more training, do more tasks, and improve your quality. You could also consider joining other simple task sites and/ or survey sites to increase your income.

What’s The Training Boot Camp About?
The In-Person Training Bootcamp is a 10 day bootcamp style workshop that is held at different locations throughout the world.
Anyone can apply, and if you are successful, you can participate in advanced learning and additional tasks. As of writing this, successful applicants can become part of the future of self-driving cars.
I personally think this is pretty cool.
It shows you that this is a company that is committed to helping their Taskers develop their skills, earn more and become part of future innovations.
To apply, you just need to go to to the website and click on the link within the FAQ section. Which takes you to the application page.
Remotasks Referral Program
One thing many people won’t know about until after they join, is that you can actually earn $5 for every person you refer to Remotasks. And not only do you earn $5, but the person you refer earns this.
This is basically a form of affiliate marketing, where you earn money promoting other people’s stuff online. But instead of earning commissions on sales you generate, you earn referral commissions whenever someone you refer creates a free account.
I earn a full time income doing affiliate marketing, so I can say without a doubt that $5 a pop is very generous. You could literally earn a full time income doing this one thing if you wanted.
This aspect is a business though, not a job.
And like any business, it takes time and effort to get into profit. You might make a few commissions recommending friends on social media, but to earn the big bucks, you need to learn how to do affiliate marketing properly.

Is RemoTasks a Scam?
No, Remotasks is not a scam. It’s a 100% legitimate company that provides people with the opportunity to earn money completing tasks from home.
And it’s backed by a Scale, a United States based company that is leading the AI industry by storm. So you can rest assured they are treating their users properly.
There are a lot of scam sites operating in the work at home niche. I review these all the time and there seems to be no end to them. But after awhile it gets easier to spot the scams verus legit sites.
And after thoroughly reviewing Remotasks I’m happy to say it’s legit. It’s also something I’ve found many other reviewers have found, and people who have joined like me and who have used the platform to earn money.
It’s not a way to get rich or even make big money, but it is legit.
And they don’t make unrealistic claims to begin with, which is always a good thing. Because in my experience, most sites that make bold income claims are scams or best case, don’t live up to the hype.
Pros
- It’s a legitimate site that is backed by a legitimate company. So they pay on time, every time, and treat their users well.
- Anyone can join from virtually any country in the world and earn from the comfort of home.
- There are no prerequisites other than the need to be fluent in english and have access to a laptop or desktop computer with at least 4GB of RAM.
- They pay you every 7 days via PayPal.
- As a user, you receive training on how to complete the tasks and training that can lead to increasing your income potential.
- The in-person bootcamp is cool and allows you to get involved with the company beyond just completing tasks online.
Cons
- The overall income potential ($1 to $2 per hour) is very low, like most micro job and simple task websites.
- Sometimes they can be tough on how accurate you are with a given task. If you make too many mistakes, you won’t get paid or you’ll get paid less.
- There is only one payment option (PayPal) which may not suit everyone.
- Can be very boring, repetitive work.
Summing It Up
It’s not everyday you find a truly legit site like Remotasks. As in, one that doesn’t make wild income claims and one that pays a fair amount for the work you do.
So, as far as micro job sites go, this is one I would recommend to anyone who wants to earn a few extra bucks, completing simple tasks.
With that being said, this is not a good way to make real money.
Sites like this rarely are. So at the very least, if you want to increase your income, you’ll need to sign up to other simple task sites. Or learn how to make money in other ways. Like affiliate marketing or some other method.
Whatever you decide, I hope you found this review helpful!
