The world of environmentally friendly products is becoming increasingly popular as more people become aware of the importance of environmental issues. In this article I will show you how to sell green products online and the huge opportunity that exists in this space.
About Green Products
What exactly is a green product? A green product is pretty much anything that can boost efficiency, protect the environment or is less harmful to people or the environment.
In other words products that are better for people, more natural and less taxing on the environment.
Looking at this in a business sense for a moment, we can start to see that the product possibilities are endless. From energy efficient appliances, sustainably produced furniture, recycled products, environmentally safe household cleaning products… the possibilities are enormous.
The good news is, so is your earning potential as a result. Not only do you get to do your part for the environment but after reading this you will understand how to make some extra cash, or even a full time income, doing so.
Is There A Real Opportunity?
There is absolutely a ton of opportunity in this niche and I am going to show you what I mean.
Firstly, a niche is just a group of consumers looking to solve a problem or that share a set of characteristics. In this case we are looking at the niche of ‘people looking to make better product choices for the sake of the environment’ or ‘green consumers’.
There’s a whole lot of subsets of these consumers from hardcore green advocates to people that will just buy green if it’s on special. This really does depend on the individual. The important thing is to learn how to target these groups, not which one you choose.
I want to give you some ideas about the different types of green products to get your imagination firing and help you to understand the truly limitless potential of this niche.
Here are just 5 basic ‘master categories’ of green products you could consider selling or promoting:
- Environmentally friendly cleaning products
- Energy efficient electrical goods
- Water conserving products
- Solar power
- Recycled products
There are many more examples but that is just 5 that I came up with. The key to making any kind of money online is to drill down and specialise in a much more targeted niche. Rather than trying to sell ‘Solar Power’ products in general we would hone in on a much more targeted (and less competitive) niche.
For example ‘solar powered camping coolers’ or ‘solar powered phone chargers’ would be great ideas for a niche. Pick something broad that interests you, get creative and drill down to find something that you can own. A niche you can dominate and really help people with.
But how do we go about all of this, like actually make money? Keep reading…
Choose Your Route
The most important thing after you decide what you want to sell is to decide which direction you are going to take. What do I mean by direction? I mean deciding if you want to sell your own products or somebody else’s.
Sell Your Own Products
Selling your own products can be a great way to make money on the Internet. If you have your own ideas and a way to make them come to light, then go for it!
Keep in mind that this is the harder of the two routes and not necessarily the more profitable. You’ll need to think about inventory, staff, shipping, warrantee, licensing and on and on… I’m not saying this to turn you off but these are very real things any business owner needs to consider and I’ve barely scratched the surface.
If you have a great idea and the means get that idea off the ground then that’s a really cool thing.
Become An Affiliate
The second route is to become an affiliate and sell other people’s products. The concept here is to build a website that specialises in a niche and provide valuable information relating to that niche within your website.
Using the example above if our niche was ‘solar powered camping coolers’ then we could build a website all about keeping things cool when camping and travelling. Useful tips, reviews on different coolers, talk about related products and anything else relating to camping and coolers.
You become the place people go to when looking for information on these products and you strategically recommend products you are affiliated with that will benefit them. Products they are ALREADY interested in. This is target marketing and it works, in fact it works very well.
When people make purchases by clicking on your special affiliate links then you get a commission.
Don’t worry if this all sounds a little hard and confusing, I assure you it isn’t once you know how. It does take work but that work will pay off.
Being an affiliate in my opinion is the best way to go because you can focus on providing people useful information and promoting while the vendor handles all the order related stuff. You just get your commission for sending them the sale. This can be very lucrative for you when you learn how to put it all together.
There are endless amounts of vendors looking for affiliates to sell their green products on the Internet so there is certainly no shortage of unique products to promote.
Build A Website And Get Rolling
Regardless of whether you want to sell you own products or sell somebody else’s, you will need a website to make all of this happen. Having a website builds credibility and will facilitate your sales and commissions. You don’t need any special skills or knowledge because this is drag and drop easy.
Gone are the days when you needed special coding skills to build a website. If you can tie your shoelaces, you can do this I promise you.
